Dear student in 2070 or to whom it may concern,
I hope things are doing well in the future! Hopefully there is one, considering the negligence towards climate change now. As you might know, I am currently in quarantine because of the coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2. Today is May 28, 2020 and I’ve been in quarantine since March 12, 2020. Despite the lack of productivity, I have learned and grown a great deal during these past two months that I would likely never had. I learned that discipline is one of the most important things in your life; it’s stronger than motivation and is built through experience alone. I’ve learned how to become a better person and grow in my faith. Though I have fostered these new gifts, I also reminisce spending time with friends at school, at the mall (you might have to look this one up), on the sports fields, etc.
To combat boredom and loneliness, I have resorted to video calls, watching shows, and working out. I’ve also been spending much more time with my family and growing in our relationships. I feel more connected to them than ever before as both of my parents are unavailable most days due to work and general business and my brother attends college. My family has started a home project to refurbish the attic because figured we should use our time to its fullest extent. So far, we have set up insulation and drywall for a majority of the area. We’re also planning to install a wall to a separate room without insulation to still keep room for storage and such.
We are still in the beginning stages of Governor Baker’s four phase approach on reopening MA, so only a handful of places are starting to open up. It’s really tough to see how the future looks and how far this virus will continue to plague us, but currently in the US, our government and many people aren’t handling this situation to the full extent of our ability. Because of the lack of leadership in the Trump administration and the amount of people disobeying social distancing guidelines, it seems that COVID-19 will remain a prominent issue in our country. I am, however, optimistic for a vaccine to rid us of this pandemic as many biotech companies are working on various types of vaccines, and one in particular is about to begin human trials! I hope one day, I can work in similar biotech labs to help people and discover more about organisms.
I hope 2070 is better than we expect it to be and better than how the world is here, 50 years earlier, in 2020.
Thanks for reading,
