Dear future students,
I can’t believe that we (the whole nation) would be in lock-down for so long. As I listened to the news today, a news reporter gave some sobering reports; 100,000 Americans have been killed by COVID-19. Life will never be the same again. When things go back to “normal”, people will tread carefully with human interactions and stay at home more often. The economy (not just America, but the entire world) is collapsing, and it’s going to take a while for society to get back on their feet. The generations after us will pay for the consequences that we have made, and I’m terribly sorry about that. If everyone helped each other out by practicing social distancing, maintaining proper hygiene, and not hoarding essential items, many more Americans would have survived this pandemic. Hopefully, there will not be another pandemic/epidemic anytime soon. I certainly hope that the presidents after Trump will be more wise and vigilant. Remember: you are your own destiny
These past 6-7 weeks, I have changed a lot. Back when I was at school, I was so busy with assignments and extracurricular activities that I never took time to de-stress myself. When school was initially closed for two weeks, I was thrilled, as I didn’t have to study for a math test and computer science check-in. I relaxed by playing video games, cooking new recipes, and starting a garden. As time passed on, I started missing school, my teachers, and my friends. Obviously, no one expected it; there’s nothing we could do about it. Whatever situation you’re in, make the best of it.
Sincerely,
Justina

I have mixed feelings about this country. Today, Derek Chauvin (George Floyd’s killer) has been charged second degree murder and his three officers have been charged. I’m glad that Mr. Floyd's family is getting justice. In the future, I hope cases like this never happen. These days, the police are becoming more aggressive towards not only protestors, but to news reporters. News reporters have been attacked by the police (who are not violent and have been staying behind the line). One got shot in the leg (by a rubber bullet), and another reporter got hit in the eye, causing permanent blindness. What happened to the freedom of expression? America is contradicting itself time and again.
Unfortunately, Covid-19 cases have increased. All these protesters are risking their lives for their voices to be heard. Police brutality has been going on for so many decades, the first one to spark outrage was with Rodney King (in 1991). Then, in 2012, Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by a policeman. The shooting of an innocent boy caused the Black Lives Movement. Slavery and bigotry didn’t end in 1865; they still exist today. After slavery ended, many blacks were still impoverished. White men made blacks work for them in factories/farms on a low budget (peonage). There was no way for blacks to break out of the poverty cycle, and whites created a system that favored them (e.g. grandfather clause, ?th compromise, etc.).
While there are many citizens that support the BLM, there are a small percentage of citizens (mainly whites, some Karens) that disagree with equity. President Trump is one of the few people that always causes controversy. He has done so many wrong and stupid things. One thing he tweeted that was so inappropriate was “the looting starts, the shooting starts.” The origin of that phrase dates back to the Civil Rights era, where hundreds of black men were brutally injured/killed by policemen. Trump should have checked with his officials, to make sure that the tweet was appropriate. A few days ago, Trump walked to a church for a photo-op. Troops used rubber bullets and gas to get protesters out of the way, for the president. Taking a picture with a bible doesn’t make you better/ “an average Joe.” Using religion as a prop is wrong. I really hope Trump gets out of office. Hopefully, the next president will make better decisions than Trump.
