Everyone is missing out on a lot of things during this pandemic, and everyone has things that they miss the most. Personally, the thing I miss the most is being able to hang out with my friends in person, and talk to them. While we do still get to call each other and have the occasional Zoom meeting, it is not nearly the same thing. At this time last year, we were just messing around at school and during track practice, now, not only can we not hang out at school or sports, but we can’t even meet up to run together like we would have last year. At this point, I would be happy to go back to school, for the sole reason of being able to see my friends in person again, and just hang out with them. Not only have a lot of our plans during the school year been cancelled, but this pandemic has even spilled over into the summer. A group of us on the varsity cross country team were planning on getting together to do our summer training, however, we are unable to do that due to the virus, and people’s parents not wanting them to be with other people. Additionally, at this point last year we would have made multiple trips to Lake Cochituate, to just swim, play King of the Hill on one of the docks, or just go off the rope swing. However, because of the virus the lake has been closed, so we are unable to even do this. Altogether, this wouldn’t be that bad if I could still see my friends, but because of places being closed, and parents not being willing to let their kids be with other people, we have been prevented from seeing each other, even while doing activities that would allow us to be the required 6 feet apart. Additionally, many of us have had birthdays during this time, and while in years past we might have met up to hang out at someone’s house and celebrate, this year we have been reduced to drive by car parades, and just biking around afterwards.
